The Location The house is located on the edge of the small town of Chipping Campden. Chipping Campden is one of the most beautiful and historic wool market towns of the North Cotswolds. It is famous for the curving high street and mellow stone houses, and sits in a fold in the Cotswold Hills and straddling the River Cam in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The town has changed little over the years and is still the focus for much of the local rural community. There are a wide variety of restaurants and pubs and an excellent range of shops selling local produce, gifts and antiques. Chipping Campden is 93 miles from London, 22 miles from Cheltenham, 10 miles from Stratford on Avon and 50 miles from Birmingham. The nearest train station is located at Moreton in Marsh, a distance of 5 miles away. Taxis can be arranged to pick you up from the station if you are arriving without a car. The nearest airports are Birmingham (50 miles) and Bristol (64 miles). London Heathrow is 88 miles away. Elkstones has its own helicopter landing facilities (co-ordinates N52 02 39.52 W001 47 17.43) and the nearest light aircraft airfield is Ullington/Bidford on Avon, approximately 20 minutes drive by car. The Accommodation Lounge This is a beautifully light and airy room, with flagstone flooring and large sumptuous rugs. It is divided into two areas, one with an L shaped deep sofa with a bespoke bookcase and TV unit, whilst the other end is more formal, with a Chesterfield style sofa and Baby Grand piano (a local pianist is available to book for private performances). Study A small cosy room ideal for reading, decorated in rust and taupe with a Shargreen campaign desk and bookcase. Kitchen & Breakfast Area The beamed kitchen is very much the heart of the house. It comprises a stylish Loxleys oak kitchen, limestone tiled floor, granite worktops, seven ring gas range with griddle, two large ovens (one with facility for pizza/bread baking), combination oven, microwave, dishwasher, American style fridge freezer and an impressive Cotswold stone working fireplace. There is a large solid timber table which seats up to 12, ideal for breakfast, lunch or informal suppers. Striking pendant lights illuminate the space. French doors open out onto a large south facing terrace with seating area and BBQ. Dining Room The main feature of this elegant room is its beautiful oval dining table in greyed oak which seats 10. A Tondo mirror in oxidised silver, a nickel chandelier, warm purple tones, luxurious carpet, lamps and upholstered chairs complete the indulgent look. Bedrooms & Wetrooms Each of the five double bedrooms (four with en suite bathrooms and one family bathroom) has an individual design. Hypnos beds with faux suede bases and wall mounted headboards, TV/DVD players, fitted cupboards and comfy upholstered chairs are a constant theme. Colour schemes include taupe, greens and blue with a splash of red and orange here and there. The highlights of the master suite are the contemporary four poster super king size bed in oak and an impressive free standing mineral cast bath in a perfect oval for two, set on a raised platform with magnificent views out over the surrounding countryside. The marble tiled en suite bathroom has a double drench shower and the generous dressing room has a full wall of faux baby ostrich panelled wardrobes. Bathrooms have a series of different looks, from black marble, to stone and mosaic tiling, with superior fittings from Grohe and Duravit. The Grounds: Large landscaped gardens open out onto a rolling meadow. Interesting features include a 'ha ha' in the lower garden and the upper terrace provides a sunny area with sheltered seating beneath a circular pergola. A terrace adjacent to the kitchen makes the perfect 'al fresco' dining spot with built in seating, table and a BBQ. | |
