This quiet idyllic typically French village is ideal for families and couples seeking relaxation and active sporting holidays.  Maison Camu is positioned between the beautiful Pyrenees Mountains and the impressive unspoilt Atlantic coast and to access either is only three quarters of an hour drive away.  Equally accessible is the unspoilt ski-resorts, the closest, Le Pierre St. Martin.  A short journey away are many medieval towns such as Sauveterre de Béarn, Salies de Béarn, Orthez and Navarrenx.  There are endless activities locally including golf, fishing, white water rafting, canoeing, pony trekking and fabulous relaxing walks.

Sauvaterre boasts everything you need if you don’t want to travel. You will find supermarkets, chemists, boulangeries, markets, bars, restaurants, a tourist office and for those who want some excitement Sauvaterre is renowned for its water sports such as rafting and canoeing. The local office here can assist you and also speak English.

To the north, the salt town of Salies-de-bearn renowned for its spa and fitness treatments.  Nestled among wooded hills, it is a small town full of character with old stone houses, sloping roofs and picturesque flowered lanes.  

To the south Navarrenx, the first walled city in France, capital of salmon fishing, a top spot for practicing white water sports or outings on a mountain bike with Santiago de Compostela nearby.

The History

The property was originally an old Bearnaise farm house with a very large barn attached with through access, the owners have done a very sympathetic conversion which has made one large property, giving plenty of space and ideal for two families staying.

The Accommodation

Maison Camu caters for 13 guests and has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. A seasonal swimming pool is set in a rustique walled garden.

Ground Floor

Lounge - huge open plan lounge, with lots of beams and character with large wood burning stove, tv, stereo system, antique dresser, 3 large sofas, side tables, coffee table and pool table, up one small step to;

Kitchen with beamed ceiling, fully fitted with all cutlery and cooking utensils. Dishwasher, microwave, large range gas oven and butcher's block.

Large utility room with hanging space, drying space, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, fridge freezer and freezer.

Dining Room -  large Basque dining table with 12 chairs and welsh dresser  leading onto
 
Snug - large wood burning stove, sofa, tv and playstation

Bedroom 1, double bed, ideal for those not wanting to climb steps or those with limited mobility.  This bedroom was the old bread oven of the house

Bathroom with roll top bath, power shower,  two heated towel rails, wc, two wash hand basins resting on local  Bidache stone, towel storage and cabinet at bottom  of cabinet for toiletries .

Stairs to the first floor are between the dining room and the snug.

First Floor

Up Stairs from Lounge leads to the Gallery landing, you can look down into the kitchen through open but safe beam layout.  Two book cases full of magazines and books.

1. A welcome Pack when you arrive that consists of baguettes croissant, eggs, ham, cheese, tomatoes, milk, butter, juice, biscuits & wine,Tea, coffee, chocolate, creams, sugar and a selection of herbal teas
